Cladding & Finishes
Insulation only works while it stays dry and in one piece. Left uncovered, it soon gets torn, crushed and soaked. Rain gets into outdoor runs, cleaning water gets into plant rooms and people knock it every time they walk past. Once insulation is wet or damaged, it stops saving energy and can start to corrode the pipe underneath.
ICE Thermal fits insulation cladding and finishes across the UK. We cover insulated pipework, ductwork, tanks and plant in aluminium, stainless steel, PVC, foil and glass cloth. We also make bespoke metalwork for bends, tank ends and awkward shapes. Every job starts with a free site survey, so you get the right covering for each area of your site.

Step 1 Contact
To book a free, no-obligation site survey, either give us a call on 0203 376 4802 or email us on enquiries@icethermal.co.uk.
A member of our friendly support team will get back to you to talk through your Cladding & Finishes needs. It helps if you can tell us what needs cladding (pipes, ducts, tanks or plant), whether it's inside or outside and the finish you have in mind. Photos are useful too, if you have them.
Where we can, we'll give you an early idea of cost for your Cladding & Finishes service. If necessary, our engineers will visit the site to review the current situation, at a time that suits you.
Step 2 Quote
Following all health and safety rules, our engineer will visit your site and carry out a full survey. For your Cladding & Finishes service, we'll check the condition of the insulation underneath, measure the runs and fittings, and look at exposure to weather, knocks and cleaning.
We'll also carry out a risk assessment, so nothing unexpected comes up once work starts. This covers access, working at height, other trades on site and any hazards we find.
Our team will then recommend the best option for your site and answer any questions. You'll receive a free, detailed quote for your Cladding & Finishes service, showing the recommended finish (metal or non-metal), the areas covered and any repairs needed to the insulation first, along with a likely timeframe for the work.
Step 3 Cleaning
Our fully trained engineers will arrive on time, in uniform and with ID badges, ready to begin the work. Before we start, we'll send you our risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) and agree working areas, times and access with you.
Our engineers will fit the agreed finish over the insulation, with overlapping joints that shed water. Bends, tees and awkward shapes are covered with made-to-measure parts. Removable sections are left where valves and inspection points need access.
The work will be completed in line with the survey and quote, following all health and safety rules. We keep a safe working area for everyone on site at all times, and can work early, late or at weekends to limit disruption.
When we finish, our team will check the completed work with you and make sure you're happy with the job. We promise to leave your site safe, clean and tidy, with all waste removed.
Step 4 After care
Here at ICE Thermal, we go the extra mile to make sure every client is happy.
You'll receive a handover pack for your Cladding & Finishes service, including the finishes used, product details and photos of the completed work. Keep it with your building records, as it's useful for audits, insurers and future work.
Our dedicated customer service team will get in touch with every client after the Cladding & Finishes service, to make sure all expectations have been met. We'll also let you know what to keep an eye on, so small damage is caught early.
You'll also be given the opportunity to write a Trustpilot review.

FAQs
The basics
Should we choose a metal or non-metal finish?
Metal cladding suits outdoor areas, plant rooms and places where it may get knocked. Non-metal finishes like PVC suit indoor areas that need a smooth, easy-clean surface. We'll recommend the right one on survey.
Why does insulation need cladding?
Cladding protects insulation from knocks, water, sunlight and cleaning. Without it, insulation gets damaged and wet, and stops working.
Materials and methods
Can cladding be fitted over existing insulation?
Yes, if the insulation is dry and in good condition. If it's wet or damaged, it should be replaced first, or the problem gets sealed in.
What metals do you use for insulation cladding?
Mostly aluminium, stainless steel and galvanised or coated steel. Aluminium is light and resists corrosion, while stainless steel suits hygienic and harsh areas.
Standards and compliance
Do you work to our M&E cladding specification?
Yes. If your project has a specification, we follow it for materials, thickness and finish. If there isn't one, we'll recommend a finish and explain why.
Do insulation finishes need to meet fire standards?
In some areas, yes. Escape routes, high-rise buildings and some public spaces may need finishes with a set fire classification. We'll check what your building needs and confirm the product rating before fitting.
Estimates and charges
Is metal cladding more expensive than PVC?
Metal cladding usually costs more, but it's tougher and lasts longer outdoors. PVC is often good value indoors. We can quote both so you can compare.
What affects the cost of insulation cladding?
The material, the number of bends and fittings, the size of the job and access all affect the price. Outdoor and high-level work may need access equipment.
On the job
Is fitting cladding a noisy job?
Some cutting and fixing makes noise, but complex parts are made away from occupied areas. We'll agree times for any noisy work with you.
Customer care
How should we look after our insulation cladding?
Keep an eye out for dents, loose sections and gaps where water can get in. Early repairs stop small problems becoming big ones.

Insulation Cladding and Finishes Across the UK
Cladding is the hard outer shell that protects insulation. A finish is the outer layer on top, whether that's metal sheet, rigid PVC, foil or cloth. Both do the same job: they keep insulation dry, protect it from damage and leave a neat surface that is easy to keep clean.
The right covering depends on where the insulation is and what it faces. A roof-top pipe needs to stand up to wind, rain and sun. A pipe in a hospital corridor needs to be wiped down every day. A riser full of ductwork needs something light and quick to fit. We'll recommend the best option for each one.

Our cladding and finishing services
Sheet Metal Cladding Aluminium, stainless steel and coated steel cladding for insulated pipes, ducts and vessels. It's the toughest covering we fit, and the best choice for outdoor runs, plant rooms and areas where insulation gets knocked.
Non-Metal Finishes PVC, foil, glass cloth and coated finishes for indoor pipework and ductwork. They're light, quick to fit and easy to clean, which makes them a good fit for kitchens, clinical areas, offices and ceiling voids.
Sheet Metal Fabrication Bespoke metal parts made to measure for your site. We make bends, tees, tank ends, valve boxes and weather hoods, so every detail fits properly and keeps water out.
What is insulation cladding?
Insulation cladding is a protective covering fitted over thermal, acoustic or fire-rated insulation. It's fixed in place with overlapping joints, so water runs off rather than in. On cold systems, the covering also protects the vapour barrier underneath, which is what stops condensation.
You may also hear it called insulation covering, jacketing or lagging finish. They all mean the same thing: the outer layer that keeps your insulation working.
Choosing the right insulation covering
We base every recommendation on where the insulation is and what it has to face:
- Outdoors and on roofs: aluminium or stainless steel cladding, with sealed joints and weather hoods at wall and roof crossings
- Plant rooms and busy areas: metal cladding that can take knocks and foot traffic
- Food, clinical and hygiene areas: smooth PVC or stainless steel that can be wiped down
- Ceiling voids and risers: foil finishes that are light and quick to fit
- Chilled and cold systems: sealed finishes that protect the vapour barrier
- Escape routes and high-rise buildings: finishes with the right fire classification
Why insulation cladding matters
- Keeps insulation dry. Dry insulation keeps saving energy for years.
- Protects against damage. Cladding takes the knocks so your insulation doesn't.
- Stops corrosion. Keeping water out helps protect pipes and ducts from rust.
- Easy to clean. Smooth finishes suit sites with strict hygiene rules.
- Looks the part. A neat, consistent finish makes plant rooms look well cared for.
- Longer life. Good cladding means less repair work and fewer call-outs.
Insulation covering installation for every type of site
We fit cladding and finishes on new insulation, and over existing insulation that's still in good condition. If the insulation underneath is wet or damaged, we'll tell you and replace it first, so problems aren't sealed in.
We work for building owners, facilities teams and estates managers. We also work as a specialist subcontractor for main contractors and M&E firms. Sites we cover include hospitals, schools, offices, factories, food plants, energy centres, data centres and rooftop plant.
